Bakersfield Facebook group spreads joy with painted rocks

BAKERSFIELD, California – Sometimes all you need is some paint and a stone to beautify someone’s day.

“I went to grocery shopping and when I got out of my car I saw something at the bottom of a tree and went there to see what it was and it was a rock with a little turtle on it,” Lashawnna said. Gleghorn

Lawshanna is just one of many Bakersfield residents who came across a painted rock like the video above. Facebook group Bakersfield CA Rocks hides them for others to find.

I thought this was the most surprising thing. “People paint rocks to bring joy to people,” he said.

Lashawnna joined the group and now hides the rocks herself. Band member Rosemarie Guerra said she found her first rock during a particularly tough week. He spent his day and inspired him to join the group.

“You see a lot of people [are] smiling and saying ‘Thank you. You made my day. ‘ I wrote something there and actually became part of the group and started painting and I wanted to hide my own rocks and bring joy to other people, ”said Rosemarie.

He said it was rewarding to make people feel like they did when he found his first rock.

“When people just send me messages saying ‘You know, I was having a bad day and you brought joy to my face, to my children’s faces. [it] It made me feel good because wow, they have the joy I feel when I find that rock one day, ”said Rosemarie.

When you find a rock, you can store it or re-store it. Lawshanna said the Facebook group has a true sense of community.

“It’s fun to meet new people and smile at people’s faces. I really enjoy it,” said Lawshanna.

Rosemarie said she was very special during the epidemic. He can’t really go out right now due to heart and lung issues. This group gave him a way to be creative while staying safe.

We start painting and you approach as a family like me and my children. We can start painting again. It gives us something to do, “he said.

Lawshanna said she hoped the group would make Bakersfield a little brighter.

We just want to make people happy. There’s a lot going on these days, and I know people are having a hard time, so we just want to, you know, bring some joy into people’s lives, ”he said.
