Google stops donations to U.S. Congress members who voted against election results

(Reuters) – Alphabet Inc will not contribute to any Congressman who voted against the approval of the presidential election results from the political action committee in this election cycle, Google said on Monday.

Earlier this month, after the violent storm in the US Capitol, the tech giant paused all political contributions to reassess its policies towards political contribution.

“Following this review, the NetPAC board has decided that it will not make any contribution to this cycle to any member of Congress who voted against the approval of the election results,” a Google representative said in a statement.

Hundreds of former President Donald Trump’s supporters raided the Congress halls on January 6 to reverse the election defeat, fight the police in the corridors, and delay approval of President Joe Biden’s victory by hours.

Following the incident, Republicans in Congress faced a backlash from several corporate firms that stopped their campaign donations and said they were reviewing their policies.

Amazon.com Inc, AT&T Inc, Comcast Corp, Verizon Communications Inc are one of many large companies that threaten to limit fundraising resources for Republicans.

AT&T and Comcast, for example, are among the largest corporate donors in Washington.
